EYE TESTING & PROFESSIONAL CARE

We provide comprehensive eye examinations using state-of-the-art equipment, including retinal photography and tonometry for eye-pressure and glaucoma screening. 

Driver’s licence screenings are available for R100, while existing patients receive this service free of charge.

FRAMES, SUNGLASSES & LENSES

Our extensive eyewear range includes affordable welfare-package options through to leading designer frames, with brands such as Oakley, Ray-Ban, Vogue, Nike, Guess and others. We offer quality spectacle lenses from suppliers including HOYA, Essilor, Kodak and Zeiss, with options such as single vision, bifocal, anti-fatigue, office and multifocal lenses. Photochromatic and anti-reflective lenses options are available. Prescription polarized sunglasses and replacement sunglass lenses are also available.

CONTACT LENSES & FRAME REPAIRS

Our contact-lens services include professional evaluation, fitting and patient instruction, with monthly and daily disposable soft lenses, eyedrops for contacts and multipurpose cleaning solutions available.

We offer free frame adjustments, advice and minor repairs, with complimentary nose-pad replacement for existing patients.

Walmer Optometrists was established in early 2012 and opened its doors on 16 April the same year.
The practice is situated in the 6th AVE SHOPPING CENTRE in Walmer, Port Elizabeth which provides easy access and more than enough free parking during office hours.

Friks, the owner, attended Pearson High School in P.E and matriculated in 1986 after which he finished his B.Sc Marine Biology degree at UPE (NMMU). In 1991 he was called up to the army where he qualified as a lieutenant and in 1992 studied marketing and sales at P.E Technicon.

In 1993 he was off to Johannesburg to study Optometry at RAU (UJ) and qualified in 1996.
Friks married his wife, Auret, who grew up in Johannesburg and attended Monument High School. She qualified as an optometrist in 1995 (RAU).
Since then they practiced together for 8 years in Kimberley and 8 years in Queenstown before moving to P.E. and opening their own private practice.

Friks and Auret both have more than 30 years of experience in the optical industry and have extensive product knowledge.
They are both registered optometrists with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as well as the South African Optometric Association (SAOA).
Friks enjoys playing golf , fishing , spear fishing and cycling while Auret enjoys cooking and the big outdoors.
